Awami League- backed panel swept annual election of the executive and sub-committees of Barisal District Bar Association, bagging 12 out of 16 posts including President.
BNP- led 20-party alliance supported Jatiotabadi Ainjibi Oyikko Parished bagged 4 posts including secretary in the election held on Thursday.
A total 708 out of 797 voters cast their votes from 9 am to 6:00 pm and counting started from 7:00 pm Thursday to elect 16 office bearers including 11 executive body and 5 subcommittee members.
Sixteen sick and physically unfit voters, cast their votes at home before the visiting team of this election commission, the election conducting commttee sources said.
Counting pf votes continued till Friday morning the election result officially declared by Adv Vanu Ranjan Das, Convener of the election subcommittee, at 09:30 am on Friday.
43 candidates in three panels supported by AL- led grand alliance backed Sammilito Ainjibi Samannaya Parishad (SASP) and Awami League backed Bangabondhu Ainjibi Parishad (BAP) and another panel backed of Jatiotabadi Ainjibi Oyikko Patishad (JAOP) supported by BNP led 20 party alliance, contested in the election.
Adv Mojibor Rahman (345 votes) elected president from AL-backed Sammilito Ainjibi Samannaya Parishad defeating Advocate Abul Kalam Azad (322 votes) of Jatiotabadi Ainjibi Oyikkojot supported of BNP led 20-party alliance.
On other hand Adv Nazim Uddin Ahmmed Panna (344) of BNP led 20- parties Jatiotabadi Ainjibi Oyikko Parishad elected general secretary defeating Advocate Md. Mamun-Or-Rashid (255 votes) of AL-backed Sammilito Ainjibi Samannaya Parishad panel.
The other elected five office bearers are: Advocate Md. Mohshin (JAOP) senior vice president , Adv Ratan Kumar Shil (SASP) vice president, Adv Atikur Rahman Riaz (SASP) finance secretary, Adv Kamrunnahan Tonu and Adv Md. Mijanur Rahman Titu (SASP),joint secretaries.
The elected four executive members of the 11 member executive committee of the association are Adv Md. KM Golal Sarwar Razib, Adv AKM Saidul Haque Khan Jewel, Adv Pradip Kumar Roy and Advocate Md. Ahad Ali Khan of SASP) .
On the other Adv Md. Bahadur Shah, Advocate Md. Asaduzaman Firoz and , Advocate Sabur Ahmed of SASP and Adv Md. Lutfor Rahman Mollah and Adv Kazi Bashir of JAOP elected as members of election sub- committee.
