AL-backed panel sweeps JUTA polls

Professor Farid Ahmed of Physics Department and Associate Professor Farid Ahmed of Philosophy Department have been elected President and General Secretary of Jahangirnagar University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) respectively.
The ruling party Awami League backed panel won the landslide victory as it
achieved 13 posts including president and general secretary out of 15 in the JUTA election.
The BNP-backed nationalist teachers’ panel won only two posts of executive member.
Chief Election Commissioner Professor AKM Abul Kalam announced the result at 6pm. The election was held at the University Club on Thursday. A total of 498 out of 535 votes cast in the election.
The other office-bearers are: Vice-President Professor Syed Hafizur Rahman of Environmental Science Department, Treasurer Professor Mohammad Amzad Hossain of Economics Department, Joint Secretary-Assistant Professor Md Fakhrul Islam of Pharmacy Department, Executive Members Associate Professor KM Akkas Ali of Institute of Information and Technology, Professor Koushik Saha of Chemistry Department, Assistant Professor Awal Al Kabir of Management Department, Professor Rasheda Akhter of Anthropology Department, Associate Professor Laizu Nasrin of English Department, Professor Sheikh Md. Manzurul Haque of Geography and Environment Department, Professor Sufi Mustafizur Rahman of Archaeology Department and Associate Professor Hosne Ara of History Department.
The two executive members from pro-BNP panel are: Professor Sohel Rana of Pharmacy Department and Professor Shamima Sultana of Bangla Department.
