AL-backed panel candidates Ratan, Hanif elected Ctg Bar President, GS

Awami League (AL) backed Chattagram Sommilito Ainjibi Somonnoy Parishad candidates Advocate Ratan Kumar Roy and Advocate Abu Hanif have been elected president and general secretary (GS) respectively of Chittagong District Bar Association (CDBA).
Chief Election Commissioner Advocate Ferdouse Ahmed tonight declared the polls results of Chittagong District Bar Association (CDBA), country’s second largest professional body of the lawyers.
In the election, the two contestants for the post of Senior Vice President got equal votes.
According to election results declared after recounting the votes for GS and Senior Vice President, AL backed Chattagram Sommilito Ainjibi Somonnoy Parishad got the nine posts – President, General Secretary (GS), Cultural and Sports secretary, Information and Technology Secretary and five executive members.
On the other hand, BNP-Jamaat-backed Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad won nine posts — Vice President, Assistant GS, Finance Secretary, Library Secretary and five executive members.
Three panels- Awami League and pro-liberation forces backed Chattagram Sommilito Ainjibi Somonnoy Parishad, progressive and left leaning Somomona Ainjibi Sangsad and pro-BNP-Jamaat backed Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad contested in the election.
The office bearers who were elected are – Senior Vice President – Kamrun Nahar, Vice President – Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Assistant GS – Mohammad Hasan Ali Chowdhury, Finance Secretary- Mohiuddin Hoque Chowdhury, Library Secretary- Mohammad Abdul Quayum Bhuiyan, Cultural and Sports Secretary – Jubaida Sarwar Chowdhury Information and Technology (IT) Secretary – Mohammad Foyej Uddin Chowdhury and executive members- M Salah Uddin Chowdhury, Imtiaz Ahmed Zia, Mahmudul Alam Chowdhury, Mostafa Kamal, Avijit Acharjee, Khairunnisa Akhter, Mohammad Erfanur Rahman, Ashim Sharma, Mohammad Aluddin Al Azad and Mohammad Mejbah Uddin Doel.
Election commission sources said nearly 3100 lawyers out of 3,801 cast their votes from 9 am to till 4pm without intermission on Sunday.
CDBA sources said a total of 47 candidates vied for the posts of 19 office-bearers including 10 executive committee members.
