AL apprehends terror attack Takes positions at key city points after Bishwa Ijtema

The ruling Awami League has been apprehending that the activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party [BNP] with support from its major ally Jamaat-e Islami may resort to terror attack soon after the Bishwa Ijtema.
The party also fears that some BNP-Jamaat men in the guise of devotees may gather round the BNP Chairperson’s political office at Gulshan and BNP central office at Naya Paltan in the city to commit sabotage activities. The above apprehensions were discussed in a joint meeting of AL and its associate bodies, including Jubo League, Mohila Awami League, Sechchhasebok League, Krishak League and Tanti League, held at AL President’s political office in Dhanmondi on Saturday.
In this backdrop, the meeting asked the leaders and the activists of AL and its fronts to remain on ‘high alert’ in a bid to resist any kind of subversive activity, a meeting source said.
 “The government has got solid intelligence information that BNP-Jamaat men can resort to sabotage activities. So, the leaders and activities of ruling party and its front organizations have been instructed to take position at different key points in city, including Airport, Gulshan, Banani, Mohakhali, Gulistan and Tongi,” a leader who attended the meeting said.
Presided over by AL General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, the meeting was also attended, among others, by Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Dr Dipu Moni and Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Organising Secretary Ahmed Hossain and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Sahara Khatun, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap. Presidents and General Secretaries of district units of all front and associate organizations were present at the meeting. The meeting also directed the party’s rank and file to gather huge people in Suhrawrady Udyan rally on January 12 marking the Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu. Meanwhile, just hours after the meeting, the miscreants conducted bomb attack targeting AL central office on the Bangabandhu Avenue at about 3:00 pm yesterday.
