A local Awami League (AL) activist was shot and chopped to death by miscreants at Madra village in Sadar upazila on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Azizul Chowkidar, 40, son of Sultan Chowkidar of the village.
Abu Bakkar Siddique, superintendent of police (Madaripur circle) said a gang of miscreants numbering 10-12 attacked Azizul and chopped him indiscriminately and then shot him leaving him dead on the spot in the area around 9:00pm.
Police suspected that members of outlawed Sarbahara Party killed Azizul.
Meanwhile, police arrested Iman Hossain,42, for being involved in the murder.
