Akheri Munajat (concluding prayers) of the first phase of Bishwa Ijtema, the second biggest world congregation of Muslims, will be offered today (Sunday) at Tongi in Gazipur district.
The Munajat will start anytime between 11 am and 11:30 am, said Police Super(SP) of Gazipur Mohammad Harun Or Rashid.
Bangladesh Railway will operate 21 special trains to facilitate the devotees from different directions to join the Akheri Munajat and to depart from the venue thereafter.
The movement of vehicles, except ambulances and police vans, from Joydebpur intersection of Gazipur to Airport, from
 Mirerbazar of Gazipur Sadar to Tongi and from Abdullahpur to bypass road will remain restricted from 3am of Sunday night till Akheri Munajat, said the SP.
The three-day long first phase of Bishwa Ijtema began on the bank of the River Turag at Tongi in Gazipur on Friday.
Maulana Jamshed Ali of India delivered sermons after Fazr prayers on the second day while Maulana Abdul Matin of Bangladesh translated those into Bengali. Thousands of devotees from home and abroad are taking part in the prayers and discussions.
 Many of them offered the prayers on roads and footpaths failing to manage places at the Ijtema venue, creating a long tailback on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.
 Some 6,887 overseas devotees from Iran, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Panama, Oman, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Iran, Japan, Canada, Cambodia, Mozambique, Russia, the USA, Sweden, Belgium, Italy, Kenya and New Zealand, among others are taking part.
Thousands of local devotees are arriving at the venue defying cold weather and braving difficulties on the roads.
Local devotees from Gazipur, Manikganj, Mymensingh, Tangail, Munshiganj, Gopalganj, Kishoreganj, Rangpur, Syedpur, Rajbari, Shariatpur, Dinajpur, Joypurhat, Lalmonirhat, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Chandpur, B’baria, Noakhali, Hobiganj, Moulvibazar, Barisal, Naogaon, Pabna, Kushtia, Chapainawabganj, Meherpur, Satkhira, Jessore and Bagerhat are taking part in the first phase of congregation. The District Administration of Gazipur set up around 56 free medical camps in and around the Ijtema venue along with beds and almost all first aid and other treatment facilities with doctors are doing round-the-clock duty at each centre. Besides, special measures were taken to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during the three-day Ijtema. A five-tier security measures have been taken with deployment of several thousand members of different law enforcement agencies, including RAB and police. RAB members are patrolling the ground and the adjacent areas with helicopters to monitor security measures. Maulana Giasuddin, a senior member of the Ijtema organising committee, said devotees from 32 districts, 16 in each phase, are joining the two phases of Ijtema this year.
Meanwhile, six devotees have so far died at the Ijtema ground on Thursday and early Friday due to old-age complications and illness.
