The IAU is an international non-governmental organization, whose permanent secretariat is in Paris, France. It is a membership organization bringing together universities, institutions of higher education (HE), national and regional associations of universities. Its aim is to promote debate, reflection and action on key issues in the field of HE. The Association offers its members and all its stakeholders a global meeting forum and various services such as information, research and analysis of its latest developments through surveys, different references and publications. The IAU provides opportunities to build partnerships and networks among HE institutions worldwide.
AIUB VC presented a paper on: Higher Education: Response to Local and Global Challenges. Internationalization of HE is expected to fulfill numerous purposes in addition to improving the quality of learning and the student experience. IAU has taken a leadership role in promoting HE internationalization with a “higher purpose” as well as responding to the socio-economic, cultural and environmental challenges, locally and globally; ensuring that capacity building approaches respect all partners’ contributions. Setting international collaboration on a more level playing field despite difference in access to financial resources.
