A huge demonstration by a faction of Tabligh Jamaat blocked the airport road against arrival of controversial Indian Tabligh leader, Maulana Saad Kandhalvi, causing acute traffic gridlock on Wednesday.
The protesters were demanding to send back Saad Kandhalvi to India for his controversial remarks.
Witnesses said a faction of Tabligh-Jamaat members started the protests from 12:00 Noon.
They blocked the Airport Road totally at 4:00pm after hearing that police convoy has escorted Saad Kandhalvi to Kakrail Masjid, the headquarters in Bangladesh.
As a result huge gridlock stretching from in front of the Airport, Bananai, Tongi Bridge to Gazipur.
Passengers specially returned expatriates of a number of flights those landed at the airport got stranded there for the Tabligh men angry activities.
All the alternative roots also collapsed for the traffic chaos. Saad Kandhalvi reached the Dhaka airport by a Thai Airways flight from Thailand around 12:30pm and later he was taken to Kakrail mosque after noon.
Maruf Hossain Sardar, DC of police Ramna Zone said it to journalists.
Later the Tabligh men organised two groups among them one group started cordon Kakrail Mosque to keep Saad Kndhalvi beleaguered their.
Another group went to Tongi Ijtema field.
They vowed that not to give chance to Saad to enter Tabligh’s Ijtema field in Tongi and continue their demonstration until sent back Saad to India.
On the other hand police wiped out the protester Tabligh men beside the Kakrail Mosque in evening.
The police and RAB has taken stand with alert beside the mosque.
