Ailing Khokon wants to meet PM

Country’s one of the noted film directors and current President of Bangladesh Film Directors Association Shahidul Islam Khokon is now waiting for his death. Before death this ailing director along with his wife Joya wants to meet the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the last time.
Khokon has already informed that he has been suffering from Motor Neurone Disease (ALS), a progressive disease involving degeneration of the motor neurons and wasting of the muscles, in the internal part of his mouth. He is becoming weaker day by day. Nobody knows how long he will survive. Belleview Hospital of USA sent back him to Bangladesh because there is no treatment of this disease. While talking with this correspondent Khokon wanted to tell many things but he couldn’t talk now. He only expressed his feelings by self-writing.
He wrote, “While shooting of movie Bojromusthi in 1990 at Kulaura present Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stayed in the shooting spot. She observed the shooting for several times. She often tells ‘Honesty is the best power.’ But what I got to work honestly. For the last time in my life, I want to meet the Prime Minister. I don’t know what will be happened in the long run for my family members.”
On September 10, Khokon went to USA for better treatment. Once popular film actress Shabana, director Kabir Anwar, former lab in-charge of BFDC Matin and a Bangladeshi couple Setu-Happy extended their hands to provide financial support for the treatment of Khokon there, his wife Joya informed.
For the interest to make a movie Khokon sold his own residence in the city’s Uttara area 15 years ago for making Palabi Kothai? Against the war criminals he made a movie Ghatok, for women empowerment he made Palabi Kothai? and against Bangla Bhai he also made a movie Laal Sabuj.
Rokter Bondi was his first directed movie. Later to cast Rubel as a hero, Khokon made movies Loraku, Birpurush, Bojromusthi, Biplob, Okorma, Sotorko Shoitan, Bishdant, Top Rongbaj, Utthan Poton, etc.
