Agyan party active ahead of Eid

Incidents of making people unconscious by Agyan Party men have been increasing alarmingly across the country ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha.
The organized gangs of the Agyan Party are roaming at different crowded places, including shopping centres, cattle markets, bus terminals and railway stations, intelligence sources said.
Agyan Party men use sedatives and ointment to make their prey temporarily blind and unconscious and looted their money or valuables.
Besides, gangsters also hijack taxicabs and CNG-run auto-rickshaws, offering
the drivers sedative-mixed food. At least 50 gangs of Agyan Party are seriously active across the country, including the capital, the sources said. They said over 250 active members, including good-looking women, are active in the capital and in Tongi, Savar, Keraniganj and Siddherganj areas.
Meanwhile, at least 384 people have been victimized by the Agyan party men in last eight months, detective sources said. In Rajshahi, a cattle trader who fell prey to an Agyan Party died at Rajshahi Medical Collage and Hospital (RMCH) on Monday morning. The deceased was identified as Judge Mia, 40, son of Fazlur Rahman of Narsingdi district, said Shah Makhdum Police Station Sub-Inspector Motiur Rahman.
Earlier, at least 35 cattle traders fell prey to a dope gang after having breakfast at a hotel in City Bypass Haat area on the outskirts of Rajshahi city on Sunday.
The food items, including beef and rice, were stale, said Mizanur Rahman, Assistant Professor of Medicine Department of RMCH quoting the patients. Earlier, a government college employee who was doped by Agyan Party men before looting his belongings died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in February. The deceased was identified as Mukul Chandra Das, 40, office assistant of Dhamrai Govt College in Dhaka, said Inspector Mozammel Haque, In-charge of DMCH police camp.
On Sunday, members of an Agyan Party took away Tk 1.5 lakh from a travel agency owner by making him unconscious in the city’s Gulshan area. In the meantime, an Assistant Secretary of Foreign Ministry was made unconscious by an Agyan Party man in the city on Sunday evening.
Detectives arrested five members of an Agyan Party, including a cashier of Sonali Bank, from the city’s Motijheel area early on July 9. On June 17, Agyan Party men snatched Tk 4 lakh from trader Liton in Motijheel area after making him unconscious. On May 27, two cloth traders also fell prey to Agyan Party men and lost Tk 5 lakh from Gulistan area.
Notorious dope gangs have also become active in committing crimes in Sylhet, said S A Shofiee, our district correspondent.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam said a large number of law enforcers are working in the city to hunt down Agyan Party men. Recently, at least 31 members of such gangs were caught red-handed and sent to jail, he said.
