A Chandpur District Agri office staff was killed under a Chandpur bound running train from Chattogram via Laksham Junction on Tuesday afternoon near Mission Road level crossing area of the district town.
The deceased was identified as Suvash Chandra Majumder,55, Accounts officer of the Department of Agri Extension, (DAE) Chandpur and a resident of Kalirbazar village under Faridganj Upazila.
Witnesses said, just before the accident, he was sitting absentmindedly on the rail track. So, he was knocked down by the running train and fell beside the track with grievous injuries.
Later, hearing the news of accident on rail track, Fire Fighters’ team leader of the neighbouring Chandpur Natun Bazar Civil Defence and Fire Station (Uttar) Md Kabir Hossain along with his colleagues rushed to the spot and took the seriously injured man to Chandpur General Hospital at 2pm where the on duty doctor declared him dead. Contacted, Chandpur Railway Thana OC Md Sarwar Alam has confirmed the report. Family sources said, Suvash was mentally disturbed and physically sick and so he went out for a walk in the afternoon. Due to sickness, he was unmindful and not aware of the running train’s whistle.
