Staff Reporter :
A section of government employees has planned to launch agitation protesting the newly proposed pay scale.
Demanding the cancellation of selection grade and time scale by June 1, they said the latest pay hike
proposal has created discrimination between maximum and minimum. Md Nomanuzzaman, secretary general of Bangladesh Government Employees Coordination Parishad made the announcement of agitation at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Saturday.
Other leaders of organization, including the president, were present in the function.
As part of movements, a protest rally would be held in Dhaka on May 24, and a memorandum would be given to the Prime Minister. Besides, agitation will be organised at all districts and memorandum would be given to Deputy Commissioners. Urging the government to cancel selection grade and time scale, they also demanded to take initiatives to resolve other problems including delay in promotion.
The government employees’ organisation threatened that the agitation would be organised at all government offices, and indefinite movement of different programmes would be observed if the demand was not made within the time frame.
Earlier on Wednesday, the committee formed for reviewing the pay scale of government employees submitted its report to Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith recommending maximum basic salary Tk 75,000 and minimum Tk 8,250. But different quarters instantly have rejected the proposal of pay hike for creating discrimination terming it frustrating. CGA Employees’ Association and Auditors Welfare Association President AKM Shahjahan Mia said, “The new pay scale will not do any good except creating chaos. S
ome bureaucrats have proposed the salary hike with an intention to tarnish the image of the government.
Meanwhile, several top-level economists have expressed opinion that the proposed pay scale will create negative impact on the economy.
Centre for Policy Dialogue [CPD] executive director Mustafizur Rahman said, “It will obviously increase the price of every essential item, if the new pay scale is implemented. Only a few people will get benefit from the pay hike.”
