About two thousand workers of a foreign export oriented glass factory staged demonstration demanding their salary increase within the factory premises yesterday but no violence occurred during the agitation.
The HongKong owned factory named Denim Glass Ltd. Sensing the news of the agitation, BEPZA authority and police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Industrial Police Inspector Arifur Rahman told that there is no disputes of arrear salary but the workers demanded their salary increase. Sources said discontent is prevailing among the workers since long for the increase of salary.
Later, a tripartite meeting between the workers, management and Industrial police was arranged at factory premises aimed at mitigating the situation, sources said.
