JnU Correspondent :The agitating teachers and the students of Jagannath University (JnU) staged demonstration on Wednesday, as part of their ongoing movement to recover their 10 grabbed halls. They also demanded immediate eviction of Bangladesh Bank branch from the land near Bahadurshah Park owned by the JnU.The teachers and the students have been continuing their demonstration for the same object for the last 21 days under the banner of ‘Hall Recovery Committee’. They organised a sit-in programme in front of the JnU Shaheed Rafique Academic Building,The students from all the departments joined the programme in processions, boycotting classes and examinations. The teachers and the students from the sit-in programme called for stern action against those who provoked police to clobber them that left over 300 students, including seven teachers, injured. They vowed to stay on streets until their demands were not met.In the meantime, a group of students held a cultural programme at the same venue after the sit-in programme to inspire the agitating students. English Department Lecturer Souyma Sarkar organized the programme. Another group of the agitating students blocked the busy Gulistan-Sadarghat route for three hours. The daylong demonstration ended with the new programme of impounding Bazlur Rahman Hall at Malitola in the old Dhaka on Thursday.
