The Inter-district Age Group Women’s Swimming Competition has begun on Saturday at Dhanmondi Sultana Kamal Women’s Sports Complex in the city.
Parliament member Meher Afroz Chumki formally inaugurated the two-day meet as the chief guest, organized by Bangladesh Women’s Sports Association (BWSA) while Bangladesh Swimming Federation general secretary SB Saif was present as the special guest.
BWSA president Mahbub Ara Gini presided over the opening ceremony.
On the first day of 100m back stroke (13-14 years), the competition, Saima Khatun, (Jhenaidah), Mochammmat Arajona (Pabna) and Jhorna Khatun (Kushtia) finished first, second and third position respectively.
In the 100m free style event (11-12 years), Sheuli (Bhola), Afsana Akter (Munshiganj) and Mochammat Chadna Khatun (Kushtia) finished first, second and third position respectively. In the 100m butterfly (13-14 years), Mochammat Mim Khatun (Kushtia), Karma Akter (Norsingdi) and Simla Akter (Norsingdi) finished first, second and third position respectively.
In the 50m breast stroke (8-10 years), Nahida Khatun (Bagerhat), Mochammat Juthi (Kushtia) and Mochammat Sagorika Khatun (Kushtia) finished first, second and third position respectively.
A total of 165 players from twenty four districts across the country are taking part in the two-day meet which included nine events.
The events are 50m breast stroke, 50m back stroke, 50m free style, 50m butterfly, 100m breast stroke, 100m back stroke, 100m free style, 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell MP is expected to present in the prize distribution ceremony today (Sunday) as the chief guest and hand over the prizes while National Sports Council Secretary Masud Karim will present as the special guest.
