UNB, Dhaka :
Afroza Abbas, the wife of BNP-blessed mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mirza Abbas, on Thursday demanded installation of closed circuit cameras at polling stations to ensure fair balloting.
“The government is saying it wants fair polls. So we do. Closed-circuit cameras
need to be set up at all the polling centres, enabling people to watch how the election is held,” she told reporters during her electioneering in the city’s Jatrabari area.
Afroza who has been campaigning for Abbas since April 8 as he is yet to get bails in various cases conducted her hectic electioneering in different areas of Sayedabad, Jatrabari, Mirhajirbagh, Dhalpur, Bibirbagicha, Sheikhpara and Shyampur areas since morning.
She said, Mirza Abbas’ election manifesto will be announced within a couple of days.
Afroza along with local BNP leaders and activists distributed leaflets and sought blessings and votes for Abbas.
As the journalists drew her attention to her husband’s main rival and ruling party-backed mayoral contestant Sayeed Khokon’s Wednesday’s remarks about her, she called Khokan as her child and urged him not to create obstacles towards her electioneering. “You’re like my child. You please mind your business and do it in your own fashion, and let us do our job in ours style,” she said pointing at Khokon.
On Wednesday, Afroza alleged that their rival ruling party-backed candidate was not abiding by the election code of conduct in their campaign.
As his attention was drawn to Afroza’s allegations, Khokon suggested her to go to the Election Commission to lodge complaints, if any. “She’s like my aunt and mother. She can go to the Commission with her allegation instead of speaking about it (before media),” he added.
