Afroza Abbas comes underattack again

Afroza Abbas, a BNP candidate for Dhaka-9 Constituency and her supporters came under attack on Tuesday while campaigning in the city’s Khilgaon area.
Around 15-20 AL men attacked Afroza Abbas and her party men after they crossed Khilgaon level-crossing area around 11:15am. Later, more ruling party activists joined the attackers and damaged the campaign materials ensuing a clash, BNP sources said.
Afroza, the wife of senior BNP leader Mirza Abbas, alleged that 20 to 25 men, who were perhaps Awami League activists, swooped on them with sticks around 12:30pm at Nobabi Mor of North Goran.
“The attackers hurled brickbats and charged with sticks, leaving at least 70 of our supporters, including 10 women, injured,” she claimed.
“Police tried to stop the attackers but failed. They escorted me home,” she added.
Afroza, claimed that her campaign entourage, consisting of more than 400 people, did not engage into scuffle with the attackers in order to avoid major and further conflict.However, witnesses said that running battles and clashes indeed took place between the two groups at Nobabi Mor.
They said that the attackers damaged Afroza’s campaign materials.
Her husband Mirza Abbas, also a member of BNP’s National Standing Committee, is contesting in the December 30 general election for the Dhaka-8 Constituency
Earlier on December 12, BCL men allegedly attacked the motorcade of Afroza Abbas during campaign in Dhaka. They damaged the car of the BNP leader and left her driver injured.
