Afghan cricketers stunned Indians as they scored a fighting total of 252 for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 50 overs against India in their super four match of the Asia Cup at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in United Arab Emirates on Tuesday.
Opener Mohammad Shahzad played the key role for Afghanistan’s challenging total. Shahzad hit 124 from 116 balls featuring 11 fours and seven sixes.
Afghanistan made a solid start as they made 65 in the opening stand before Javed Ahmadi (5) was stumped out by MS Dhoni off Ravindra Jadeja. Later, Mohammad Shahzad and Gulbadin Naib added together 50 runs for the five-wicket partnership before Naib (15) was caught Jadabh off Deepak Chahar when Afghanistan’s total was 132 for the loss of five wickets.
Shahzad and Mohammad Nabi built another notable partnership. They contributed together 48 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before Shahzad was dismissed by Kedar Jadhav when Afghanistan’s score was 180 for the loss of six wickets.
Mohammad Nabi was the other notable scorer for Afghanistan. He hit 64 off 56 balls with four sixes and three fours.
