Afghan people must not be betrayed for the faulty war against Taliban

The Afghan capital of Kabul fell to Taliban forces on Sunday, despite the investment of trillions of public dollars and 20 years of occupation by the US and its allies in the name of fighting Taliban terrorists. Now America and its allies are desperately leaving the country keeping Afghan people to be butchered and tortured. The US and others fought a wasteful war.

The Afghan government started talks with Taliban leaders for a “peaceful” transfer of power through a transitional government headed by former Interior Minister Ali Ahmad Jalali. It is strange that America or any Western Democratic country believe that a joint government with extreme Taliban terrorists is feasible idea. America has vast weapons power but no wisdom or diplomacy to fight terrorism or help democracy to take roots.

The British Prime Minister spoke last night giving out hope that they must work together. It is unbelievable that Taliban being a tribal outfit with no modern weapons can defeat the Western powers.

America can betray other countries for the safety of its own people can be acceptable if America does not need trust of other countries. America will face a lonely world.
The Pentagon has also created troubles in some other Muslim countries like Iraq, Libya, Syria and Iran. The Taliban’s capture of power in Afghanistan will have negative consequences for the long-suffering Afghan people as well as the security of the countries of the region. Security experts think former US President Donald Trump’s “peace deal” with the Taliban in Doha, Qatar last year had paved the way for capitulation.

The Taliban have meanwhile been trying to assuage the Afghan people and neighbouring countries that they would not go for revenge killings and accommodate people outside their ranks to run the country peacefully. The international community is worried because of the Taliban’s past human rights records and the UN has warned of a humanitarian catastrophe. The fear again is that if the Taliban do not find international legitimacy, Afghanistan would fall into another cycle of terrorism.

We cannot allow victory of terrorism and hope foolishly to live safe in isolation. Afghan people want education and modern life for their women. The Western countries should keep their serious presence in Afghanistan to protect the people as long as it takes. The luxury of a big army will not be needed.
