Fate of about two lakh students of Dhaka University-affiliated seven colleges is still unchanged as they are suffering from different problems like session jam, delay process of taking examinations and publishing results.
Even, the motto to enhance the quality of education at the DU-affiliated seven colleges is yet to fulfil.
Tanjim Ahmed, a student of Government Titumir College, said, he completed his 3rd year final examination in July last year but the result is yet to be published.
“We were hopeful that our fate would be changed and would get standard education. Our college teachers take classes but the Dhaka University teachers make question papers. This duel role is a serious problem for us,” he said.
“We are facing difficulties at every level of our academic activities,” Tanjim said.
Sumaiya Tabassum, a student of Eden Mohila College, said, “We did not get any extra facilities after the college’s affiliation with the DU. Rather, we are facing extra problems as our college teachers are reluctant to take the responsibility for any matter. And when we go to the DU authorities they send us to the college.”
Meanwhile, Dhaka University students have been demanding to cut ties with the recently affiliated educational institutions.
The DU students argue that the quality of the affiliated colleges’ students is substandard. They use the identity of DU and taking extra unethical facilities.
They also alleged that the university is facing problems to run its regular academic activities. So, how it will take responsibility of about two lakh students, they asked.
Jubair Ahmed, a final year student of History Department, said, “The DU has no tremendous achievement in the world arena. The name and fame of the university is decreasing day by day. It is urgent to take initiative to restore the image of the most ancient higher educational institution in spite of taking extra pressure.”
The DU students also on Thursday demonstrated on the campus to transfer the responsibility of the seven colleges.
They also complained that the students of those colleges are tagging themselves as students of Dhaka University and engaging in misdeeds.
The incumbent DU authorities and the educationists in the country agreed that the affiliation process was wrong. The colleges were shifted without doing any homework.
They said that the National University authorities took many plans to improve the quality of the university. It was wise to give more time to the NU administration.
Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Dr Akhtaruzzaman told The New Nation on Friday that the DU was not ready to receive the responsibilities of a large number of students due to manpower shortage.
