Asian football boss, the President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Sheikh Salman Bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa arrived on a two day visit to Dhaka on Sunday.
Sheikh Salman, also the vice-president of the FIFA, flew to Dhaka from Kolkata after watching the grueling Under-17 World Cup football final between England and Spain where favourites England lifted the trophy.
Sheikh Salman’s visit is very significant for Bangladesh football since he is the one of the top most FIFA and AFC official to visit this country after the former president of the FIFA, Sep Blatter who visited Bangladesh in 2012 to inaugurate the Astro turf ground adjacent to BFF House.
Sheikh Salman, who was elected as the president of the AFC in 2013 will meet the executive committee members of the BFF on Monday President of the BFF, Kazi Mohammed Salahuddin thinks that the visit of Sheikh Salman will put up great impact in the development of football in Bangladesh.
However one wonders how Bangladesh football will utilize this opportunity, over the years Bangladesh football has slumped down with the national football team degraded to all time low rankings of 195 and local football marred with lack luster games.
Despite the slump, it is the female footballers who have hogged headlines with eye-catching football in both local and international arena and while some scattered successes in the age levels hardly portrays any bright future for Bangladesh football.
