Bangladesh Railway and private bus companies on Monday started selling advance bus-train tickets on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Huge crowd in long queues were seen at Kamalapur Railway Station on the first day for advance train tickets.
But the crowd was more less than the previous years as many tickets were sold out through online.
Each passenger will be able to buy maximum four tickets. Tickets for June 21 journeys were sold available on Monday.  
Kibria Chowdhury, a businessman, said, “I came to the Kamalapur Railway Station at about 9am on Monday. And I got the tickets at 1pm without any hassle.”
The officials of Bangladesh Railway said that at least 60 per cent tickets have already been sold through online.
Kamal Uddin, a banker, told this correspondent yesterday that he had purchased four tickets through online for his family members for going to Chittagong.
Around 30,000 tickets are made available than the normal day sale of train tickets, said Railway sources.
Tickets for June 22 will be available on Tuesday on the second day of sale while for June 23 on June 14, for June 24 on June 15 and for June 25 on June 16.
Besides, the return tickets for the journeys of June 28 will be available on June 19, and for June 29 on June 20, for June 30 on June 21, for July 1 on June 22 and for July 2 on June 23.
SM Murad Hossain, Joint Director General (Operation) of Bangladesh Railway, said the authority concerned took all-out preparations to ensure a smooth distribution of train tickets amid adequate security measures.
“The officials of Dhaka and Chittagong Railway stations are supervising the selling of advance train tickets,” he said.
He said sale of tickets will begin at 8am every day and each passenger will be able to purchase four tickets but no ticket once sold will be returned.
Meanwhile, the advance booking and sale of long distance buses’ tickets also began on Monday.
Queues of people were seen at ticket counters in Gabtoli, Kallyanpur, Malibagh, Fakirapool and Shyamoli since early morning yesterday.
Rabbani, a private service holder, who was standing in a queue at Kallyanpur bus counter said, “I came here to get a ticket to go to my home district Bagerhat on June 23, but I was told that the tickets have already been sold out, even though ticket sales began only five hours ago. Now, I shall have to look for tickets at other counters.”
Bus-Truck Owners’ Association Managing Director Ramesh Chandra Ghosh said tickets are being sold in accordance with the fares set by the government. Fare lists have also been put on display at the counters.
