Admission test trade in colleges

block

Mahabub Alam :
Although the admission test for colleges under the National University (NU) is scheduled to be held on December 19, a number of seats of important subjects in Honours Courses [Session 2014-15] in some government colleges in Dhaka have already been booked before the admission test.
A section of dishonest NU officials, teachers of colleges and ruling party student wings are allegedly engaged in this illegal seats reservation trade in exchange for Tk 20,000-50,000 as per standard of the educational institutions.
During spot visits to some colleges in city on Monday, this reporter was informed of the illegal advance admission trade by a number of teachers, students, admission seekers, staff members and some BCL activists.
The fill up of admission test form began on October 30 and it will continue till November 22.
English, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Accounting, Management, Finance and Marketing are supposed to be vital and preferred subjects of the admission seekers.
A number of admission seekers have submitted their main mark sheets of SSC and HSC to the persons involved in the allegedly advance admission trade to manage seats.
About four hundred admission seekers have submitted their main SSC and HSC mark sheets to them for getting chance in different important subjects, it is learnt.
The scenario is stated to be the same in Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Govt Titumir College, Govt Shaheed Shurawardi College, Govt Bangla College and Begum Badrunnessa Govt College.
This practice also continues in the government colleges outside Dhaka, it is further alleged.
Another kind of illegal system for getting admission in the colleges has been going on for a long. That is, an admission seeker contact with a meritorious student of any university in exchange for Tk 2,000 to 5,000 to appear at the admission test with him.
To accomplice the task, two admission applying forms are brought and filled up in online at a time and submit those together. In this way, seat numbers of the pair are found side by side.
The contacted student fulfills OMR sheet of the admission seeker while the test seeker nominally fills up the OMR. By this way, one easily can get chance in important subjects.
Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the NU Professor Harun-Ar-Rashid told The New Nation that he was unaware of the matter.
“I have learnt from you (journalist) first. I will take necessary steps to stop such malpractice”, he said.
“I can assure that only meritorious students will get chance in the university through legal process”, he said.
