Adoption of time-befitting tech for sustainable agriculture stressed

Speakers at a programme underscored the need for adopting and promoting farmers-friendly crops and technologies for making the agriculture sector in Barind area sustainable.
They also opined that the people should raise their voice against climate change for protecting environment and biodiversity from its adverse impact in the vast Barind tract.
The speakers came up with the observation while addressing a workshop on local economic development forum review at Zila Parishad auditorium in Godagari upazila of the district yesterday. Godagari Upazila Chairman Ishahaque Ali addressed the programme as the chief guest with Upazila Vice-Chairman Rawshan Ara in the chair.
The programme was addressed, among others, by another Vice-Chairman of the upazila Md Kamruzzaman, Upazila Livestock Officer Saiful Islam, Youth Development Officer Ashiqur Rahman, President of Kakonhat Fisheries and Livestock Development Society Habibur Rahman and its Joint-Secretary Soibur Rahman.
Practical Action and Caritas Bangladesh, two non-government development entities jointly organised the event.
During concept paper presentations, Market Development Field Facilitator of Practical Action Md Rakibuzzaman and Regional Field Officer of Caritas Bangladesh Aminul Islam highlighted the importance of promoting time-fitting crops and technologies.
The chief guest said the entire agriculture sector and its subsectors like livestock and fisheries are facing problems due to the adverse impact of climate change, so there is no alternative to adopt time-befitting technologies.
Other speakers told the programme that there should have adequate measures of boosting the level of knowledge of the farmers on the issue.
All community people need proper knowledge about the importance of biodiversity, natural resource conservation and climate change issues so that they can contribute to this field, they opined.
DFP provides family planning services for slum fertile couples
Department of Family Planning (DFP) has brought more than 712 fertile couples residing in slum areas of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) under its services, said Moloy Kumar Roy, Divisional Director of DFP.
He said there are around 910 fertile couples in 11 slum areas and necessary motivational and counseling activities are being promoted to bring the rest under the planned family campaign. The DFP director was addressing a campaign relating to family planning in RCC area at the conference hall of Family Welfare Visitors Training Institute (FWVTI) in Rajshahi city yesterday as the chief gust. DFP organised the meeting in association with its Information, Education and Motivation unit.
With DFP Deputy Director Dr Nasim Akhter in the chair, Assistant Director Tasiqul Haque, FWVTI Principal Faridul Haque, Medical Officer (Clinical Contraception) Dr Khaza Ferdous and Medical Officer Dr Tahsina Shamim also spoke at the programme.
The chief guest viewed collective efforts of all government and non- government organisations concerned has become an urgent need to make all the fertile couples conscious about planned family.
He said there is no way, but to create public awareness about the aspects of planned family and that is very important for freeing the nation from the curse of poverty and hunger.
Dr Nasim Akhter opined that all the authorities concerned should work together for providing necessary information relating to reproductive health services to the adolescents for their welfare.
Proper knowledge and education on physical change, sex and reproductive health for the adolescents could play a vital role in building planned family.
Over 100 persons, including juvenile boys and girls, newly married couples, religious leaders, RCC councilors in women reserved seats and other stakeholders attended the meeting.
