Adopting ribbon retting for rotting jute plants amid water scarcity stressed

Agriculture experts at a technology demonstration ceremony have stressed for adopting the lowest-cost ribbon retting method in rotting jute plants amid water scarcity to get quality fibre with increased yield rate.
They asked the farmers for adopting the easiest technology that would be indispensable in future following the continuous adverse impacts of global climate change that affects agriculture sector and creates water scarcity frequently for rotting jute plants.
They were addressing the ceremony at a farmers’ gathering on ‘Extension of Ribbon Retting Technology of Rotting Jute Plants at Farmers’ Levels’ in village Mouzathana Belevita under Chilmari upazila of Kurigram on Wednesday afternoon.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) organised the gathering for disseminating the technology at farmer levels with jute grower of the village Ershadul Haque in the chair.
Chilmari Upazila Agriculture Officer Nazrul Islam attended and addressed the ceremony as the chief guest and also practically demonstrative the ribbon retting technology for separation and rotting of jute fibre.
Sub-assistant Upazila Agriculture Officers Sayeed Hossain Ansari, Isahaque Ali, Shahadat Hossain and Gawsal Azam Amin, Sub-assistant Plant Protection Officer Zahidur Rahman Zahid attended and addressed the occasion as the special guests.
The agriculture experts and officials provided practical and on-spot knowledge to the local farmers on ribbon retting technology for separating jute fibre from harvested jute plants and rotting those easily despite water scarcity adopting the technology.
They narrated the lowest-cost ribbon retting technology and its tremendous benefits in overcoming drought-like situations and water scarcity for rotting jute plants to get the best quality fibre also with maximum market price.
