Jagrata Juba Shangha (JJS) arranged an event on Media Mobilization on Sustainable Consumption under the project “Adolescent Led Sustainable Consumption Education for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation” in Khulna on Saturday. The participants are the media representatives from 20 different newspapers of Khulna City. ATM Zakir Hossain, Executive Director of JJS was present at the event along with M M Chishty, Director Program of JJS, Ratan Biswas and Zayed Bin Azad, Project Officer, SCP. The Youth Educators of the project also present there with their adolescents of KCC working areas.
Executive Director, ATM Zakir Hossain welcomed everyone and started the event. This adolescent led sustainable consumption and optimum use of resources can be achieved only when the individual would be aware about their consumption behavior. Adolescent representative, Baishakhi Sarker started to share about how the resources can be used moderately by avoiding misuse of them. She stated that the aim of this media sharing event is to spread awareness about the sustainable consumption behavior among the children, community people, state actors and other responsible authorities.
The other adolescent representatives Shajidur Rahman Nayan, Rakiba Akter Riya, Shimla, Afreen, Laiju shared about their experience and activities under the sustainable consumption project, they highlighted the issues regarding food wastage, emission of toxic gases from the mills and factories, motor vehicles and so on.
Shimla, one of the representatives of adolescent group, said that we should use LED bulbs to ensure sustainable use of electricity. Sunlight can be the most useful source of light in this case, while, Afreen emphasize on reducing food wastage.
Besides, Shimla shared and displayed the poster regarding sustainable consumption. In this regard, coordination of all – general people, government and non-government actors, media personnel is a must.
Meanwhile, Nayan shared their achievements so far involving under the project. He shared that, in 2020, they ensure tree plantation at Ward level (9 KCC Wards).
In 2022, they distributed 450 cloth bags in the community and arrange campaign at food hotels and shops and house to house campaign as well. Besides, they did several documentaries and distributed leaflets, stickers and posters.
