The government on Thursday appointed two new administrators for the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
The public administration ministry issued a gazette notification, signed by SM Shafiq, the ministry’s senior assistant secretary, in this regard.
Dr Rakhal Chandra Barman, Director General of the Department of Jute, was made the administrator for DNCC while Md Shawkat Mostafa, additional secretary (OSD) of the Home Ministry was appointed administrator for the DSCC.
The appointment will take effect immediately, the notification said without adding how long the two administrators will be in charge of the offices.
However, according to the law, the administrators are expected to be in office for six months.
During Monday’s Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina turned-down a proposal for extending the office term of Dhaka city administrators to one year from six months.
She said, the elections will be held early next year. She however did not elaborate further.
