Hajj Pilgrims Welfare Council (HPWC) has demanded adequate hajj flights from Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport to Jeddah.
More than 20 thousand pilgrims from greater Chittagong will perform hajj this year. In a statement of President of HPWC Ahmedul Islam Chowdhury and the Secretary General Principal Dr. Abdul Karim said, it is very much awful that a number of hajj flights are being operated from Dhaka airport daily whereas a few number of hajj flights from Chittagong from August 5. As such Chittagong based
hajj pilgrims are in utter uncertainty following the non-declaration of more hajj flight schedule from Chittagong as yet.
Hajj agency sources said there are nine thousand hajj pilgrims from Chittagong district but the hajj flights can carry not more than four thousand pilgrims. The Chittagong based hajj agencies are repeatedly requesting the Biman office here but failed to get any positive response.
The statement demanded adequate number of flights as per numbers of intending pilgrim.
HPWC urged immediate intervention of the Prime Minister to resolve the long felt demand of the people of Chittagong region, sources said.
