Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon on Thursday said that adequate firefighting systems must be installed in every factory and in every chemical warehouse in old Dhaka.
“To protect people from tragedy like Nimtali and Chawkbazar inferno, it is must to install firefighting system in every factory and every chemical warehouse properly,” said Mayor Sayeed Khokon at a view exchange meeting with traders in Islambagh Eidgah ground.
The Mayor referred to his promises given to the businessmen about safety of peoples’ lives at any costs.
He said, “The first fifteen to twenty minutes are very important when inferno blazes. If we can control fire within the given time, the damage will be significantly less.”
The Mayor asked the businessmen in the chemical hub to send persons’ lists for taking firefighting training at the Fire Service and Civil Defense office.
He urged the traders to store sufficient quantity of water, sands and other firefighting elements in all chemical warehouses and factories.
Traders agreed with the Mayor’s views about developing firefighting systems
and assured him of taking measures soon in this regard.
The Mayor said that a committee would be forged comprising local Panchayet committee leaders and traders to be led by ward councilors.
The Mayor also declared that the plastic raw materials are not inflammable and ultra inflammable stuff and so not textile pigment and metallic Oxides.
Hazi Mohammad Zahangir Alam Babul presided over the meeting.
DSCC Chief Executive Officer Mustafizur Rahman, other officials and businessmen of old Dhaka were present.
