UNB, Dhaka :
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Sunday said the government may decide to impose additional duty on sugar import if the sugar refinery owners attempt to manipulate the market price.
The government may even go for importing and refining raw sugar, if needed, he said while addressing a seminar in the city.
The seminar, titled ‘Role of Accreditation in Boosting the Export’, was jointly organised by Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB), Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD) at DCCI.
Amu sought cooperation from the sugar refinery owners in stabilizing the sugar market.
DCCI president M Shahjahan Khan presided over the seminar.
