ADB-BB’s new project under SME programme

Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Bangladesh Bank (BB) are going to implement a new finance project under the name of ‘Skill for Employment Investment Programme’ with a view to creating skilled SME entrepreneurs across the country, said the Central Bank Governor Dr. Atiur Rahman on Wednesday.
The programme will help the SME entrepreneurs increase the productivity and therby to boost the economy, said the governor while addressing a seminar on ‘Fnancial Literacy Campaign- Bangladesh Small and Medium Entrepreneurs Problems and Prospectus’ in the auditorium of Bangla Academy in the city.
The training programme of the SME entrepreneurs will start very soon, said the governor. He called upon the SME entrepreneurs as well as the women entrepreneurs to organize training programme in different trade sectors.
He suggested the SME entrepreneurs to undertake good and innovative initiatives for increasing national productivity which will bring a platform to generate employment opportunities for the youth.
“Finance is not now a problem to us, you just undertake projects, money is ready to finance you. We just want to create skilled SME entrepreneurs for attaining a viabrant economy”, said Atiur Rahman.
Bangladesh Bank has already created refinance facilities for the financial institution to promote the SME entrepreneurs across the country.
Bangladesh Bank and Asian Development Bank are going to create a new refinance project to flourish SME entrepreneurs. He asked the financial institutions to take fund from the project to disburse more SME loan in the country.
“So far the financial institutions have disbursed loan among 2.50 lack SME entrepreneurs during the last five years”, he said.
He asked the financial institutions to provide more SME loan to the entrepreneurs. “Equal treatment is important for loan”, he also said.
Special Guest SK Sur Chowdhury called upon the financial institutions to emphasize the small entrepreneurs in allocating loans. The default loan of the small entrepreneurs is very little compared with the large-scale entrepreneurs.
Association of Bankers Bangladesh (ABB) Vice-Chairman Abdul Mannan urged the financial institutions to increase credit flow to the SME entrepreneurs to become a middle country.
Bangladesh Leasing and Finance Companies Association Chairman Asad Khan urged the financial institutions to avail refinance facilities of the central bank to flourish SME entrepreneurs across the country.
Hasna Begum,Women Entrepreneurs of Rajshahi District demanded for expanding market facilities for the SME entrepreneurs.
The seminar was presided over by the Executive Director of SME and Special Programme Department Nirmal Chandra. Managing Directorof various financial institutions and a good number of SME entrepreneurs took part the seminar.
