In television dramas and
cinemas, noted actress Arjumand Ara Bokul is seen to play either in role of elder sister or mother. But in role of mother, many newcomer actresses are acting in dramas and movies now. For this reason, character based artiste like Bokul did not get many scopes to play this role like previous times. According to Bokul, now many newcomer actresses, who are acting in mother’s roles, they are getting that amount of remuneration which is not much better like her. These newcomer actresses are working with less number of payments in dramas. So, number of works of Bokul has reduced now. After reducing her works in TV dramas and movies, Bokul has concentrated to music. Arjumand Ara Bokul, hailed from Bogura, was enlisted as an actress in Bangladesh Television (BTV) in 1995. She was also enlisted as a singer in BTV in 2001. During that time she also enlisted as a singer in Bangladesh Betar. From BTV, she last time got a call to render song in 2015. Few days ago, she again got call from BTV for singing song. But from Betar, she regularly gets call for rendering song. Basically Bokul feels comfortable to render old folk songs. She does not feel comfortable to render modern folk songs. She has already engaged herself busy with music. She is also trying to participate in many live shows which were requested from various groups on Facebook.
While talking about her concentration to music now, Bokul said, “In fact, I want to continue acting. But I get call to play mother’s role a little bit now. I have heard that now there is necessity to maintain group for acting. I didn’t learn this. I have learned how to work. If anybody shows interest o work with me regarding story of any project, I try to do it. Now in case of work, scope of acting has been reduced. I do not get much call for acting. For this reason, I have increased concentration to music now. I am trying to render songs on BTV and Betar regularly. Therefore, to keep requests from different groups, I am trying performing online live shows. In fact, I want to keep myself busy with works.”
Bokul also said that she last acted in Ashfaque Nipun directed web series Sabrina. On June 12, under the banner of Palakar Natyadal, she will perform in a theatre play under the direction of Ashikur Rahman. Mahbuba Begum Hena directed drama Shesh Raater Golpo was Bokul acted her first play on the stage.
