Noted actor, playwright and freedom fighter Farid Ali died on Monday at 4:00pm at National Heart Foundation Hospital & Research Institute in Mirpur in the city. On January 15, he became sick due to cardiac arrest and was admitted into a city hospital in Wari area. Later he was shifted to Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital and then ICU at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. He got Tk 25 lakh as financial support for his treatment from the Prime Minister.
Farid Ali was residing in Thataribazar in old part of Dhaka. He last year acted in Amzad Hossain’s Eid play Purnimar Chandey Megh. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman called him Challi Foru. In 1956, though he was decided to seat for then Metric examination he later did not attend. In Bangladesh Television’s first comedy play Tri Ratna, Ashish Kumar Louha, Jalil and Farid Ali were three jewels. Specially he appeared for the first time in the big screen in role of Byanga by Amzad Hossain’s movie Dharapart.
Later he acted in movies Titas, Sangram, Obhishap, Parashmoni, Gunda, Rongbaj, Shaptadinga, Je Aguney Puri, Titas Ekti Nodir Naam, Palonko, Jaliyat, Ghuddi, Kalmilata, Bhagyalipi, Sadhona, etc.
In his film career, Farid Ali most of the time worked with Razzak and Kobori. Fourth play of BTV Nobojonmo was written by Farid Ali but his written much talked play was Kingkortobyo Bimur.
Farid tied the nuptial knot with Monwara Begum on August 20 in 1975. He left behind four sons and one daughter. Farid Ali’s son informed that his body will be buried at Banani Graveyard on August 23.
