Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury Thursday said the government has distributed agriculture cards among farmers which have enabled them to open bank account with Taka 10 as well as collect bank loans.
“The government has wiped out the activities of mahajans (money lenders) from the country to free the farmers from their grip by introducing agriculture cards, bank loan and other facilities,” she added.
The minister said this while distributing VGF rice and clothes among the poor and destitute people on the premises of Nalitabari Union Parishad office in Nalitabari Upazila.
She distributed 10kgs of VGF rice to each of 1,400 people, 1 piece shari to each of 750 women, 1 shirt to each of 200 men. 1 trouser to each of 200 people, 1 three-piece to each of 60 females, old age allowance to 138 people and allowance to 15 physically challenged people.
Matia also distributed sharis among the families of freedom fighters and date to destitute people from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.
