‘Action will be taken if no case of snatching or theft is registered with the police station’

The Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has requested the victims to lodge a complaint if they face any harassment or problem to file a case with any police station after the robbery.
Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police Joint Commissioner (DB-South) Mahbub Alam said it at a press conference held in the DMP Media Center on Saturday morning.
He said that after the snatching or robbery, if the police stations delays in taking the complaint or case, then complain directly to the DMP. The DMP commissioner has clear instructions to take action against the officers of those police stations.
In response to a question, Mahbub Alam said that nowadays a number of digital devices are being stolen and looted in the capital. Especially those who snatch on the streets, they run away with the mobiles and valuable gold ornaments of the pedestrians and passengers. We have seen that most of them are drug addicts.
The joint police commissioner of DB South said snatching and malom party’s violence normally increases during Ramadan and Eid.
DB police also conducted operations especially in Dhaka to take action against those involved in robbery, snatching, and theft.
Under the direction of the DMP Commissioner, as part of the security activities for Ramadan and the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, Ramna and Lalbagh divisions have arrested 27 suspects from different parts of the capital in a special operation to prevent robbery, dacoity, theft and violence of Malam Party. These all are professional snatchers, robbers and criminals.
On Saturday, 22 of them have been sent to jail in different cases.
There are theft, robbery, snatching and drug cases against the 27 arrested persons.
Mahbub Alam said, “This time we have planned to conduct a campaign against those who deal with such stolen mobiles, changing IMEI numbers and sell them. There are not only robbery cases but also drug cases against the members of this gang, he added.
