Action if authors, publishers hurt religious sentiment: DMP Chief

Actions will be taken against authors and publishers if they are found selling books that hurt religious sentiments, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia.
 “It is primarily responsibility of the authors, and then the publishers to review whether their
books hurt any community’s religious sentiment,” said the DMP Commissioner.
The DMP boss cautioned all while visiting the venue of Boi Mela at Bangla Academy and Suhrawardy Udyan on Tuesday.
 “Law enforcers have set up multi-layer security measures in and around the venue. They have set up three control rooms and brought the area under blanket surveillance by CCTVs,” the DMP Chief said.
Apart from the main venue, stalls have been set up at Suhrawardy Udyan where security personnel will be present in both uniforms and plainclothes, he said.
To enter the venue, visitors will have to undergo a four-tier security checking at entry points of TSC, Shahbagh, Doyel Chattar and Nilkhet the DMP Chief said.
There will be a patrol team in the area to meet the emergency, the police official said, adding, “Separate entry and exit gates have been made to check harassment of female visitors.”
Special Branch (SB), Detective Branch and Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit will also remain watchful to throat influx of books hurting people’s religious sentiment, he said.
