Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed said that legal action would be taken against those found guilty after receiving the inquiry report from the committee.
He told it to the media at Sitakunda in Chattogram on Tuesday afternoon after inspecting the BM Container Deport.
Quoting the incident, the IGP said that workers were injured while working at the depot and firemen and policemen were injured while trying to rescue them. In the meantime, the Prime Minister took special initiative to treat them.
An inquiry committee has been officially formed. Another investigation committee has been formed by the Fire Service. Legal action would be taken after
receiving the report from the investigation committee.
Meanwhile, the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) opened a police control room and briefing center at BM Depot three days after the accident. They opened the booth on Tuesday morning in front of the One Stop Emergency Care Center of Chattogram Medical College (CMC) Hospital.
Earlier, an explosion took place at BM Container Depot in Sitakunda on Saturday night. Upon receiving the news, three units of Kumira Fire Service rushed to the spot and started work to douse the blaze. Later, at around 11.45 pm, fire spread from one container to another.
At one point, there was a huge explosion from a chemical container.
At least 43 people, including nine members of the fire service, were killed. Hundreds of people have been burnt and are being treated at different hospitals.
