Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said legal action will be taken against Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mizanur Rahman after receiving probe report which normally sent to the ministry from Police Headquarters.
“The probe report against DIG Mizan has been submitted in the Police Headquarters. We will take steps once the report is sent to us suggesting his punishment,” he said while addressing ‘Police Memorial Day’ at Mirpur Police Staff College in the city on Thursday.
Earlier on Monday, the probe committee, led by Additional IG of Police Headquarters Mainur Rahman Chowdhury, submitted the report stating that evidence has been found against DIG Mizan.
The probe body found evidence that DIG Mizan was engaged in misconduct while on duty. On January 9, Mizanur Rahman was withdrawn from his position due to allegations of abducting a young woman at gunpoint and forcing her to marry him.
Later, Mizan accused her in a vandalism case, for which she was even sent to jail in December.
However, after she secured bail, another case was filed against her for allegedly making a false Kabinnama.
After news of the incident went viral on social and mass media, a three-member probe committee, headed by Additional IGP Mainur Rahman Chowdhury was formed to investigate the matter. Following the allegation, DIG Mizan was withdrawn from his position.
Sources from the police headquarters said, “Terming DIG Mizan’s behaviour as misconduct, the report pointed out that the incident has damaged the image of Bangladesh Police.”
Another high-ranking police official characterized DIG Mizan’s actions as immoral.
