Asian Centre for Inclusive Education (ACIE) organized an award presentation ceremony at Krishibid Institute Bangladesh in the capital recently.
This is the 3rd Nirafat Anam Memorial Inclusion (NAMI) award 2017 presented to a human rights activist Monsur Ahmed Chowdhury for his enormous contributions for the inclusion of people with special needs in Bangladesh and beyond.
Prof Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh has handed over the award to Monsur Ahmed Chowdhury as chief guest and Prof Husne Ara Begum, Director of IER, University of Dhaka was present as special guest.
This award has been named in memory of Late. Dr Nirafat Anam, Assistant Professor Department of Special Education at IER of Dhaka University, who has dedicated her professional life to ensure the inclusion of people with special needs in Bangladesh.
Monsur Chowdhury lost his vision at the age of seven and studied in brail system, on completion of education from University of Dhaka, he has served in different development organizations including government entity Jatiyo Protibondhi Unnayan Foundation with greater responsibility and leadership to promote and protect rights of persons with disabilities as well as prevent avoidable disablement to reduce incidents of disabilities. Chowdhury is a founder trustee of IMPACT Foundation Bangladesh, Trustee Bishwo Shahitto Kendro (BSK) and Member Executive Board Disability Council International (DCI).
