Accused of Mahfuza murder case plead not guilty

Two accused of the case filed in connection with the murder of former Principal Mahfuza Chowdhury Pervin of Eden Mohia College yesterday pleaded not guilty in the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka.
Earlier, on September 24, Judge Abu Zafar Md Kamaruzzaman of the tribunal completed recording the depositions of the witnesses. On Thursday, the court fixed September 30 to place arguments on behalf of the prosecution and the defence.
The two accused of the case are domestic help Rita Akter alias Swapna and Ruma alias Reshma. Of the 34 witnesses, 27 testified in the case.
On August 2, last year, SI Alamgir Hossain Mazumder, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka.
On February 10, last year, police recovered the body of Principal Pervin from her apartment at Sukanya Tower on the capital’s Elephant Road.
On the following day, the case was filed against two domestic helps with New Market Police Station in connection with the murder.
During investigation, the duo made confessional statements in magistrate courts on different dates.
Mahfuza Chowdhury was the principal of Eden College from 2009 to 2012. Her husband Ismat Kadir Gama is a freedom fighter.
