Accused in bribe-fund to be tried under criminal law: AIGP

Additional Inspector General of Police M Mokhlesur Rahman on Monday noon in Barisal said accused in creating and operating bribe-fund would be tried under criminal law of the country.
The AIGP said this before the journalists during visiting the victim support centre (VSC) at Barisal Kotwali Police Station compound.
On the first-day of 3-day visit under Barisal region the AIGP also inaugurated service delivery centre of Gournadi police station.
The AIGP answering questions about the creation and operation of recently flashed bribe-fund claimed that present police force is pro-people and so authourity trying to make it corruption-free, transparent and accountable.
The AIGP assured that besides departmental investigation and action, accused would also be trailed and punished under criminal law.
We also want to find out whether any one behind the curtain operating such activities trying to embarrass the running government, the AIGP told.
Barisal Metropolitan Police authourity reshuffling internal probe committee on July 3 formed five-member new probe committee led by Abu Saleh Md. Raihan, Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) of BMP.
However , this committee also yet not submitted their report. Shoibal Kanti Chowdhury, BMP commissioner, said the time of submitting report of internal probe committee have been extended and they will submit report within this week.
In the meantime total Tk 67 lakhs allegedly collected under bribe-fund to get promotions of the personals to different ranks of BMP, have been recovered.
Eleven police personal including a deputy commissioner of BMP have been suspended and attached over the scam of collecting bribe-fund for promotion in service.
One high official of BMP on condition of anonymity said earlier also per head Tk 5-10 thousand collected unofficially for enlisting and moving promotion-file and it was an open secret in the country.
This year it was flashed publicly and informed to head quarter by agitated persons as huge amount was collected by the fund-organisers on assurances of giving promotion.
