An accused in a theft case committed suicide in the custody of Hatirjheel police station of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The accused is identified as Rumman Sheikh (27), resident of Rampura of the capital.
After the incident, angry relatives were protesting in front of Hatirjheel police station on Saturday afternoon.
The body of the deceased has been taken to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
Rumman’s brother-in-law Sohail Ahmed told the media that Rumman Sheikh must have committed suicide in the police custody. CCTV footage showed him committing suicide. I saw the footage myself, he said.An accused committed suicide sitting in the police station is very pathetic. What did those who were on duty at the police station?, he added.
It is known that on Friday (August 19) Rumman Sheikh was arrested by the Hatirjheel police station from Rampura Mahanagar area of the capital in the case of money theft.
When the Hatirjheel police station was contacted, no statement was received from the police.
