Access to financial services especially to the unbanked people is essential for promoting inclusive economic growth and improving standard of living, said the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Hossain Khaled on Sunday.
 The DCCI President said this while addressing a roundtable discussion on ‘Mobile Financial Services: the Right Delivery Perspective’ at the conference room of the DCCI in the city.
He said, only .50 per cent of total mobile phone users availed mobile financial services (MFS) as registered customer as of March 2012 whereas it increased significantly to 23 per cent in June 2015. The value of total number of daily transactions through MFS has crossed $56 million.
Addressing as the chief guest, State Minister for Finance and Planning M A Mannan said that the government is committed to facilitate stakeholders to bring people of all sections into the activities of inclusive economy.
 He said, mobile financial services are playing a vital role for creating an environment for inclusive economy in our country. The government will support the entrepreneurs of this sector with proper policy guidelines, also said the minister.
Convenor of Telecom, ICT and Intellectual property Rights standing committee of DCCI Syed Almas Kabir presented a keynote paper.
In an open discussion, a good number of discussants urged for creating level playing field for mobile financial services and supportive policy guidelines. They also stressed for proper monitoring and regulatory reforms from the government to flourish the mobile financial service sector. The discussants said that if all transaction comes under mobile financial services, it would reflect the environment of inclusive economy, which will help alleviate poverty from the society.
