Land grabbing case: ACC travel ban on ex- AL MP, wife

A travel ban has been imposed on Awami League leader and his wife by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for grabbing government land.
A letter signed by Deputy Director Ali Akbar was sent to the Special Branch of Police and Department of Immigration in this regard on Tuesday.
On Monday the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) approved three lawsuits against AKM Awal, former Awami League lawmaker,
and his wife Lyla Parveen on charges of misappropriating government land in Pirojpur.
The anti-graft body approved the cases at a meeting held in its Dhaka office, confirmed ACC Deputy Director (Media) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee.
He said, “The Commission’s Deputy Director Md Ali Akbar will file the cases in this regard.”
According to the cases, former ruling party lawmaker AKM Awal by misusing his power while in office took lease of government land based on false information and built a three-storey building there in his wife’s name.
Later, the building was rented to Pirojpur Rural Electrification Board.
The couple was also accused of grabbing another piece of government land in Swarupkathi upazila of the district and building a mansion there.
They have also been accused of grabbing a half acre plot of government land and building of an illegal wall around it in Pirojpur district.
The anti-graft watchdog will send a notice to the offending couple, asking them to submit their wealth statements, the ACC official said.
