Secretary of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Faizur Rahman Chowdhury said, the inquiry into wealth accumulated by seven former and incumbent ministers and MPs of the ruling party is at the final stage.”The inquiry process of the wealth accumulated by the former and present lawmakers continues. The investigation will be completed shortly”, he said while speaking at a monthly briefing in the media centre of the ACC head office on Wednesday.
The wealth of former Health Minister Dr AFM Ruhal Haque, former State Minister for Housing and Public Works Abdul Mannan Khan, former State Minister for Water Resources M Mahbubur Rahman, Enamul Haque, MP (Rajshahi-4), Abdur Rahman Bodi, MP (Ukhia-Teknaf), Aslamul Haque, MP (Dhaka-14), and Abdul Jabbar, former MP (Satkhira-2) is being investigated. In January ACC launched probes against their wealth.
When asked about the progress of inquiry into BASIC Bank loan scam, he said, the ACC needs more time to complete the investigation. “We have already interrogated many officials of the bank. The investigation team is collecting more information. The progress will be visible in this regard soon”, he said.
In response to a question, the secretary said, ACC filed departmental case against its two deputy directors for their alleged involvement in corruption and served them show cause notices.
He described that ACC received 1,000 allegations so far in May and took into cognizance 62 only. It filed 21 cases. The accused convicted in 11 cases and released in 10 cases.
