ACC to be tough against officials obstructing public services

Staff Reporter : Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman M Badiuzzman on Wednesday said the commission would take tough action against those government officials who would obstruct the public service properly. “A section of public officials try to dominate the people instead of giving good service to them. The ACC will not delay to take strict stance against them. So it is high time to change their mindset. They have to give good service to the people,” Badiuzzaman said. The ACC Chairman said this at a meeting held in the commission’s conference room. Praising some government officials, Badiuzzman said, many government officials are trying their best to bring qualitative changes in the public sector, aiming to reach services to the doorsteps of common people.He said the ACC is holding public hearings to bring transparency and accountability in different government bodies, which provide services to people.ACC commissioners M Shahabuddin and Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed also spoke at the meeting held with its Secretary Abu M Mustafa Kamal in the chair.Mentioning the public hearing, Shahabuddin said the commission has adopted a new concept of public hearing, which aims to establish people’s right to services by creating awareness them, apart from bring transparency at every level of the administration.Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed said, every official of the government is responsible to serve people as providing service to people is their constitutional duty.The ACC bosses said that the commission would hold public hearings on services provided by Assistant Commissioner’s Office (Land), Sub-registrar Office and DPHE (Department of Public Health Engineering) of Dhaka district at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on December 9 next.
