Staff Reporter :
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned former FBCCI President and Managing Director of Ha-Meem Group AK Azad over allegations of illegally amassing wealth. The summon was issued a day after Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) bulldozed parts of his Gulshan residence.
ACC on Wednesday asked AK Azad to appear in person at its headquarters on April 3.
This is the first time that the country’s anti-graft body summoned an owner of the country’s top 10 conglomerates.
The summon letter was issued by ACC Director Mir Mohammad Jainul Abedin.
Admitting the matter, ACC spokesman Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told The New Nation yesterday that AK Azad has been summoned for questioning over several offences, including illegally amassing wealth.
“He has been asked to appear before the ACC to defend him over the allegations,” he added.
AK Azad could not be reached for comment despite several attempts over phones.
But an official of Ha-Meem Group asking not to be named said they have received the summons.
