Chattogram Bureau :
They were not the members, yet they were given plots by the Chattogram Journalists Co-operative Housing Society (CJCHS). Four former leaders of the Journalist Housing Society have resorted to fraud to allot plots in the name of the wives of three members of the society. Not only that, according to the terms of housing, when handing over the plot, 25 percent of the market value was supposed to be deposited in the govt treasury, but they (CJCHS) did not do that. The Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) investigation has uncovered such allegations of irregularities and embezzlement.
The concerned officials of the ACC said that they did such work for the benefit of themselves and filed a case against four former leaders of the Journalist Housing Society and five others, including their wives.
Anti-Corruption Commission Integrated District Office-Ctg -1 Assistant Director. Abu Saeed filed the case (No. 14) on November 25.
The alleged accused are: Mahbub-ul-Alam, former chairman of Journalist Co-operative Housing Society, Nizam Uddin Ahmed, former secretary, Shahid-ul-Alam, former treasurer, Nirmal Chandra Das, former joint secretary, his wife Tapti Das, Taslima Khanam, wife of Shahidul Alam, Hosne ara , wife of Nizam Uddin. , Md. Selim and Mosammat Humayera Wadud.
According to the case statement, the govt leased 16 acres of govt land in Sholashahar mouza of Bayazid police station in 1982 ( the then Panchlaish police station) to solve the housing problem of journalists living in the port city.
The condition was that in order to transfer the leased property or any part of it in any way, the permission of the lessee must be taken from the Deputy commissioner and 25 per cent of the market value of the property must be paid to the state exchequer.
The ACC Deputy Director (Search and Investigation-5) Anwarul Haque directed the ACC district office-Chattogram -1 to take action by filing a case.
In this context, on November 25, Assistant Director Abu Saeed filed the case as a plaintiff. The case was filed by Enamul Hoque, Deputy Assistant Director of the same office.
