Money laundering: ACC signs MoU with BFIU

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Sunday with a view to increasing scopes of cooperation between the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) for dealing with money laundering and other financial crimes.

Debprasad Debnath signed the MoU for their respective sides at a simple ceremony at the Bangladesh Bank.
Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman, ACC chairman M Badiuzzaman, ACC commissioners and central bank deputy governors were, among others, present on the occasion.
Bangladesh Bank deputy governor and BFIU chief Abu Hena Mohammad Razi Hasan gave the introductory speech on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Atiur Rahman urged all to work unitedly to build a crime-free Bangladesh. He also stressed the need for successful implementation of the MoU.
The Central Bank Governor also sought cooperation of all concerned to make the BFIU formulated working plan a success to accomplish the task of ensuing mutual evaluation in due time.
Extending his heartfelt thanks to the Bangladesh Bank for continued support to the ACC, its chairman M Badiuzzaman underscored the need for joint efforts of both the entities for ensuring welfare of the country.
He also hoped that with the signing of the MoU, the future activities of the ACC would be strengthened and become more dynamic.
The ACC and the BFIU have jointly undertaken various initiatives and implemented those successfully in a bid to tackle money laundering and other financial crimes.
To enhance the skills of officers of these two organizations, many initiatives have already been undertaken and those are under the implementation process. After formation of an anti-money laundering unit at the ACC, investigation into the allegations and the number of cases are rising.
As a result, initiative was taken to sign the MoU between the two organizations to properly look into the allegations as well as to investigate cases through increasing the scope of cooperation as well as providing equipments and improved technological facilities.
