ACC seeks tech help from donors to fight graft

Chairman of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Iqbal Mahmood on Wednesday urged global donor agencies to come up with technical support to help the Commission fight corruption in Bangladesh.
The ACC chief came up with the call when a five-member team of German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) Dhaka office, led by Pramita Sengupta, held a meeting with him and other top officials of the ACC at its
head office in the capital. Iqbal Mahmood said the ACC wants to spread global good practices of corruption prevention among new generation aiming to guide the school-going children to the right path.
He urged GIZ not to give financial assistance but provide technical support and equipment to the ACC to help it enhance its capacity in fighting graft. ACC commissioner Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed, its secretary Abu M Mustafa Kamal and director general Dr Md Shamsul Arefin were, among others, present at the meeting.
Earlier in the day, a five-member delegation of Asian Development Bank (ADB), led by its vice-president (operation) Wencai Zhang, met ACC chairman and commissioners at the Commission’s head office.
During the meeting, Wencai Zhang assured the ACC chairman of providing more support to the national anti-graft agency to improve its monitoring task and technology.
